What She Wanted

Interior designer Angela Telles had three different storage visions for her client’s home. One was of an open concept closet for her master bedroom—a streamlined presentation of clothes unrestricted by doors, like something you’d see in a boutique store. Secondly, she saw a comfortable space to get ready in the morning with various conveniences easily accessible, like tea and coffee. Lastly, Angela envisioned a double-duty solution for her guest room closet: not only did she want it to store a guest’s belongings, but also serve as a catchall for shoes and equipment, like storage in a mudroom. On a mission to solve for each vision, Angela reached out to California Closets Westchester County for an expert opinion.

How we did it

California Closets design Consultant Brenda MacLeish started with the master closet, designing the custom unit to show off the client’s clothes in a boutique-like fashion. Ample hanging space created a beautiful display for the wardrobe, while linear drawers with suspended spaces created streamlined hidden storage. Up top, overhead storage provided plenty of shelving to organize accessories and hats. In the master closet’s sitting room, Brenda also flanked the stunning brick fireplace with a glass-top vanity and a built-in beverage bar complete with a wine fridge and coffee station. And, across the back wall, open shelves organized an enviable shoe collection. Finally, Brenda split the guest room closet into two halves—one for a guest’s use with spacious clothing drawers and hanging space, and the other with shelving for shoes and drawers for socks and hats.

Angela is clearly detail-oriented which pushed me to greater heights. Her talent is inspiring and the final result was beyond my expectations.

Final Result

Working closely with Brenda, Angela realized three dream storage spaces for her client. Now, the entire wardrobe is easily accessible with the master closet’s open unit (which even includes a hidden “dirty laundry” drawer!), while everything from wine and espresso to makeup is at hand in the sitting room. The guest room closet also successfully accomplishes two functions, offering hidden storage for guests and everyday items. Plus, its tri-glass, leaf-panel slider completes the design with a sophisticated style statement.
