An experienced home and design writer and author, Amy Azzarito knows the importance of a well-appointed interior. After moving into her new split-level home with her husband Mark, she hoped to enhance the master bedroom’s beautiful San Francisco Bay view, yet needed a solution for its small closet, underutilized pass-through, and serious storage shortage. And with a baby on the way, Amy wanted a sanctuary space—a dedicated part of the house she could call her own.
I emailed California Closets before we even moved into the house; the master closet was just an empty box without rods or anything. California Closets was the first decorating decision I made.
Amy turned to California Closets San Francisco designer Corinne Cronin to solve her design dilemma. Overlooking the bay, the pass-through became Corinne’s first priority. She designed custom benches with drawers beneath and an integrated dresser to create a seating area with ample storage. Corinne reserved the adjacent master closet for hanging, shoe, and shelving needs, unifying the two separate areas into one high-functioning, fully-organized storage space.

Once awkward and disjointed, the reimagined and combined space now stores everything from clothes and jewelry to bathroom linens. Beyond added storage, the window seat also offers the perfect perch for Amy and Mark to watch the bay’s spectacular sunrises and enjoy a quiet retreat together.
The lighting rods are my favorite thing in the closet. They make the things you have feel really special; like you’re shopping in your closet. I love the way they honor what you own.
